BEIJING, SANA- China reiterated its demand that the United States stop arms sales to Taiwan and implement its statement on the issue

Beijing-Sana

China renewed its demand for the United States to stop arms sales to Taiwan and implement its statement not to support the so-called "Taiwan independence".

Commenting on the US State Department's remarks on Washington's commitment to provide defense materials and services to Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference, "China reiterates its strong opposition to the new round of arms sales plan to Taiwan by the United States."

Noting that the so-called "Taiwan Relations Act" is a domestic law unilaterally drafted by the United States, Zhao said it "severely violates universally recognized international laws and the basic norms of international relations," adding that "it is inconsistent with the one-China principle and the provisions in the statements." The three joint ventures between China and the United States.

Zhao noted that the United States is not at all in a position to boast of such a law to interfere in China's internal affairs and sell arms to Taiwan.

Zhao stressed that the United States should immediately halt arms sales and military contacts with Taiwan, stop creating factors that lead to tensions in the Taiwan Strait, and faithfully implement the statement of not supporting the so-called "Taiwan independence" issued by its government.

On the other hand, Zhao called on Washington to stop the militarization and weaponization of outer space, stressing that space is a global public arena and a major factor in the security and well-being of humanity, and that preventing an arms race in space is a prerequisite for ensuring peace, tranquility and the sustainable use of outer space.

Zhao noted that the US move to politicize issues of science, technology and trade and undermine the rules of international trade and the global market is doomed to failure.

The formation and development of the global chip industry and chip supply chain is the result of market rules and companies' choices, Zhao said, noting that despite this fact, the United States has repeatedly abused state power, politicized science, technology and trade issues, engaged in "coercive diplomacy" and tried to promote decoupling. An industrial link which undermined the rules of international trade and divided the world market.

Media reports had revealed that the US administration had asked South Korea to inform it by the end of August whether it would participate in the US-led chip alliance called "Chip4" to deal with semiconductor supply chain problems.

Zhao considered that such a move by Washington goes against the trend at a time when the global economy is deeply integrated.

In a separate context, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhao called on Australia to form a correct perception of China and take concrete measures to improve bilateral relations, stressing that "it is in the two countries' interests to stabilize the relationship, and if the two sides wish to do so, there is a way forward."

Zhao stressed that China is willing to work in the spirit of mutual respect and work together with the Australian side and advance bilateral relations along the path of the comprehensive strategic partnership for steady development in the interest of the two peoples.
