The Directorate of Plant Protection in the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform implemented during the current year several campaigns to combat the pests of “fruit fly, olive fruits, capanos, Nile flower and wild eggplant” in several governorates.

Director of Prevention, Dr. Iyad Muhammad Bin, told SANA that the campaign to combat fruit flies included the governorates of Homs, Tartous and Lattakia, and targeted all areas of citrus, almonds and apples cultivation. The control area reached 10,719 hectares, during which 623 liters of protein hydrolyzate and 3,530 of pheromone were used, indicating that the campaign is still ongoing. Ongoing until now.

Mohammed explained that the area of ​​control against insects and pests affecting olives is 1,048 hectares, including 250 hectares in Tartous, 250 hectares in Homs, 50 hectares in al-Ghab, 444 hectares in Lattakia and 54 hectares in As-Suwayda. During the campaign, 213 kg of ammonium biophosphate was used.

Concerning the capnodus insect, the director of prevention stated that 4,528 insects were collected from an area of ​​2,588 hectares in the governorates of Hama, Homs and Aleppo, while 10 kilometers in the water bodies in the Al-Ghab region were isolated from the Nile flower blight and 6,850 live enemies were released in Al-Ghab and Tartous. Muhammad indicated that the wild eggplant control program is continuing through the mechanical control method by uprooting the affected fields in addition to chemical control using the herbicide glyphoside. The chemically controlled area reached 893 hectares in Deir Ezzor, during which 7200 liters of herbicide were used, indicating that 5450 hectares were controlled with health pesticides.
