The heat across Europe is breaking records, and with it a wave of fires spreading across the continent.
A fire that broke out due to the stormy winds in the northern mountains of Athens led to the evacuation of hundreds of patients in hospitals.
So too in Italy, where gas canisters exploded in a fire near the Tuscan town of Lucca.
A huge fire is raging in Portugal, which has already consumed between 38 and 46 square miles since Sunday.
The commander of the civil defense of the northern region of the country, Armando Silva, warned that the high temperatures and powerful winds would make the fight against fire difficult.
In Spain, where fires are raging in five different regions, further rises in temperatures are forecast.
