Authorities in Beijing have advised tourists to move to higher areas • Thousands of firefighters are battling a wave of fires south of London • There are now fears on the continent of sudden storms and floods that will disrupt flights and cause damage

Climate crisis: Authorities in Spain and Portugal this morning (Wednesday) announced more than 1,700 deaths from the heat wave and fires that hit the Iberian Peninsula and Western Europe last week and warned that the death toll could rise.

Most of the mortality is recorded among the elderly population in places where there is no access to air conditioning, since in many Western European countries public spaces and sometimes even medical institutions are not air-conditioned at all or poorly air-conditioned.

In the UK, thousands of firefighters have been recruited to fight forest fires that have erupted south of the capital London after record temperatures of 40.3 degrees were recorded in the country yesterday and are still expected to skyrocket and break records today.

Fires were also recorded in northern England in the south of Yorkshire County.

The UK expects heavy heat to break tomorrow but fears a series of Atlantic storms that could disrupt flights and lead to floods.

Climate experts in the country called the current heat wave in the UK a "dismal milestone" after the previous heat peak was 38.7 degrees.

The heavy heat has caused various phenomena such as the mass of one of the runways at Heathrow Airport south of London and damage to road infrastructure in some places.

Germany is also preparing for a day of breaking heat records.

Yesterday the country broke the heat record for this year and the authorities in the cities of southern Germany opened special shelters for the weak population.

Dozens of fires broke out in Italy, including a huge fire in the Tuscany region that consumed thousands of acres of fields and natural woodland.

Five major cities in Italy have been put on high alert due to the heat wave and authorities are preparing to deal with many casualties as a result of the high temperatures.

But it is not just Europe that is suffering from a severe heat wave.

Unprecedented temperatures are also coming to China, after the country cut off a heat wave about two weeks ago that left the country's authorities at the limit of their capabilities.

Authorities in the country have called on the many tourists who visit the resorts after removing most of the restrictions on the population in the country, to visit the higher areas of the country in order to escape the heavy heat in the cities and coastal areas.
