On Monday night, a scheduled Sky News debate between the remaining Tory candidates was canceled at the last moment.
According to the chain, Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss had refused to participate.
The Tories feared that disagreements between the candidates would give a bad image and weaken the majority.
The day before, another debate had been tense.
Paradoxically, as Sherelle Jacobs writes in The

, the Tory party
"does not today look like a government party but rather like a divided and tortured opposition formation"
.
That no natural candidate has emerged attests to the divisions and disarray of Margaret Thatcher's former party.
The fight which is announced for the head of the party will be, to a certain extent, a confrontation between the center and the right of the formation, even if the cleavages are more complex and shifting according to the subjects.
