Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, discussed with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abdollahian in Tehran today the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to develop them in all fields, in addition to regional and international developments of common interest.

Abdullahian reviewed the proceedings and results of the summit of the guarantor states of the Astana process (Russia, Iran and Turkey) in Tehran yesterday, and the bilateral meetings held on the sidelines, referring to its final statement, which stressed the unity, sovereignty and independence of Syria and rejected all attempts to harm it, with an emphasis on moving forward in the fight against terrorism and the implementation of agreements. Concerning the de-escalation zones, condemning the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and calling for their cessation.

Abdullahian drew attention to the clear and explicit position of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Ali Khamenei, in rejecting any military operation against the unity and integrity of the Syrian territories, and his assertion that such an operation would harm the interests of Syria and Turkey, destabilize security and stability in the region and serve the terrorists. He also referred to the efforts made by President Ibrahim Raisi during the summit. .

For his part, Miqdad expressed his thanks and appreciation for the decisive positions announced by Khamenei and President Raisi regarding developments in Syria and for the great support provided by Iran to Syria in all fields, stressing that Syria will continue to make all possible efforts to end the occupation and combat terrorism and work to facilitate and encourage the return of the displaced to their homes and villages .

Miqdad stressed the importance of moving forward in developing bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the economic and trade fields, in the interest of the two friendly peoples.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Syria in Tehran, Dr. Shafiq Diop, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Executive Support Department, Dr. Tawfiq Abu Gallon from the Syrian Embassy in Tehran, Khaled Sharaf, Director of the Afro-Asian Department, Ahab Hamed from the Foreign Minister’s Office, and Ali Asghar Khaji, Senior Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs on the Iranian side. Special Affairs, Muhammad Sadeq Fadli, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department, Muhammad Shah Hosseini, Director of Syria's Office in the Iranian Foreign Ministry, and a number of Iranian diplomats.
