Pebble Beach 2022: for more than 150 million euros at auction

AUCTIONS – On the sidelines of the Californian Concours d'Elegance which is held from August 18 to 20 on the shores of the Pacific, auction houses are offering an avalanche of exceptional automobiles.


For major collectors and lovers of exceptional pieces, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Élégance (August 18 to 20, 2022) is the market.

This is the guarantee of access to the ultimate in the collection, that is to say machines which are beyond dispute and which have a golden pedigree.

Knowing that the greatest collectors on the planet are present on the shores of the Pacific, a stone's throw from the town of Carmel, public auction houses compete in ingenuity to present the best that can be found on the market. .

The 2022 edition is particularly remarkable with the dispersion of several leading collections featuring nuggets of automotive history.

Here is an anthology of some treasures found when reading Bonhams catalogs,

Gooding & Company and RM Sotheby's.

The latter takes the lion's share with the sale of several exceptional collections.

The first of these comes from the estate of Oscar Davis.

ortune made in pool accessories and equipment with Hayward Industries, this enthusiast had brought together the pinnacle of sports and racing cars from the 1930s and 1950s. His collection thus includes Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS and 6C 2300 B MM Berlinetta, the Ferrari 375 MM Spyder Pininfarina (chassis 0366 AM) and 500 TRC Spyder (chassis 0706), the Maserati 450 S and 200 SI as well as a Talbot Lago Grand Sport T150 C-SS with Figoni & Falaschi bodywork.

From Terence E. Adderley's collection are two Duesenberg Model Js (convertible and ), a Stutz DV-32, a Mercedes 300 SL and the single-seater Miller 91 Supercharged Front Drive "Perfect Circle" which raced at Indianapolis in 1927 with Pete DePaolo.

Browsing through the RM Sotheby's catalog one will also find an incredible number of Mercedes500 K and 540 K in a large number of body variants, two Bucciali TAV3 Torpedo Cannes and the TAV2 chassis from the 1930 Paris Motor Show car. RM Sotheby's, it was again the Porsche 718 RSK (chassis 718-006) which ran the major events of the 1959 world championship under the factory banner, and a fine selection of road and racing Ferraris.

The must-have is undoubtedly one of the two 410 Sport barquettes entered in certain events by the factory in 1955 and 1956. Bearing the chassis number #0598 CM, this one was driven by Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1,000 km of Buenos Aires of 1956. During the 1956 and 1957 seasons in the United States, Carroll Shelby won more victories at the wheel than with any other machine.

Its catalog offers three early road models: a 1949 166 Inter cabriolet, a 1951 212 Inter coupé bodied by Ghia and the Ferrari 250 GT Europa Pinin Farina exhibited at the 1955 Brussels Motor Show.

At Gooding & Company, lovers of the Italian Maranello brand will also be well served.

The Anglo-Saxon house will thus sell the Ferrari 166 MM Berlinetta Le Mans chassis 0066 M built by Touring in 1950. Another exceptional piece: the 1961 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Series I Coupé Aerodinamico (chassis 2809 SA) commissioned by Count Volpi .

The Gooding & Company catalog also includes Tony Vincent's collection of interwar cars.

There is a Delage D8-120 with cabriolet bodywork by Chapron in 1939 in a flamboyant style, but also an unusual Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental from 1934 with a Streamline silhouette and a Mercedes 540 K Sport cabriolet A from 1937. Another interesting collection, that by William M. Wonder gives pride of place to the endurance prototypes of the 1990s. Finally,
