Bear sighted at Sylvensteinsee: Wildlife camera hung to photograph deer

Both devices belong to the Bad Tölz State Forest Service.

In both cases, the recording was pure coincidence, says forest manager Rudolf Plochmann on request.

Wildlife cameras would only be installed on very specific occasions.

In the current case, there was peeling damage.

Deer busied themselves with the trees.

And to identify the culprit, the camera was hung up.

In the end, she took the picture of the bear that can be seen on the right edge of the picture.

LfU has compiled rules of conduct for bear encounters

The state forests reported the sighting to the LfU.

"Authorities, interest groups and representatives of livestock farmers have been informed.

Bavaria is prepared for this situation with a management plan.

The LfU has also summarized rules of conduct for encounters with bears.

"If you see a bear, show respect and keep your distance." It is recommended that you use calm speech and slow arm movements to draw the bear's attention to you.

"Don't try to scare the bear away.

Don't throw branches or stones at him.

Keep an eye on the bear and retreat slowly and in a controlled manner.”

For Plochmann, the sighting is no cause for excitement.

"The bear is probably somewhere else." It is important to report the sightings so that all land users are informed.

Bear photographed in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: Next bear population in Trentino

According to the state office, the nearest bear population is in Trentino, Italy, about 120 kilometers from Bavaria.

A bear population spreads very slowly.

It is not assumed that bears will settle permanently in Bavaria.

Bears roam far and wide in search of females

"Young males sometimes roam very far in search of a female," the statement said.

“They can be on the road for several months or a few years.

If they don't find a partner, they return to their home country."
