It should work on the second try.

In the 2018 state elections, Rottacher Thomas Tomaschek (46) narrowly missed entering the Maximilianeum as a direct candidate for the Greens.

He wants to get a mandate in 2023.

Gmund -

If Tomaschek clears this hurdle and is nominated as a direct candidate, the state assembly will follow in February 2023, where there will be a struggle for places on the list for the state elections.

At the first attempt in 2018, the Rottacher got 30th place. The election went well for the newcomer from the Miesbach district, in the end he moved up to 25th place.

That wasn't quite enough for a mandate.

"I was a bit depressed then," remembers Tomaschek, who wants to make a difference across the country, especially in the areas of energy transition, landscape protection and mobility.

"I would like to know it again," explains Tomaschek, a saxophonist and cultural manager by profession.

At the annual general meeting of the green local association Tegernseer Tal in Gmunder Gasthof Maximilian, he made his intentions public as its chairman: Tomaschek announced his application for the direct candidacy in constituency 121 Miesbach for the state elections in 2023.

Constellation meeting on September 21st

The decision will be made by the district association of the Greens at the assembly meeting on September 21st.

The Rottacher has the local association in the Tegernsee valley behind him.

"In him we have a very good and experienced candidate who can do a lot for our Oberland in the state parliament," explains Wolfgang Rzehak, ex-district administrator.

Tomaschek himself is optimistic.

Especially since the newcomer from the past is very present on the political stage today.

In 2018 he was also green behind his ears, Tomaschek remembers.

"Today I am networked in a completely different way."

Active on many levels

Tomaschek has been a member of the Rottach municipal council since 2014. Since 2019 he has led the local association at Tegernsee, since 2020 the district parliamentary group of the Greens.

All this by no means in silence.

He tirelessly organizes campaigns, excursions and discussions with high-ranking representatives of his party.

"I'm on the road a lot," reports Tomaschek.

Not easy for the family man - the sons Maximilian and Ferdinand are four and eight years old - but his wife Sabine supports the political ambitions and is also involved in the local Ukraine aid.

"I would like my sons to be able to live here later, too," says Tomaschek.

The Greens have gotten stronger

In the 2018 election, Tomaschek took second place as a direct candidate behind Ilse Aigner, now President of the State Parliament.

Tomaschek expects that the next green direct candidate will also have to compete against the prominent CSU woman.

"It's a difficult position," he says.

But overall, the Greens have become much stronger: "Now that Habeck and Baerbock are running the business, so to speak." And even if it gets difficult with the direct mandate in the district: Via the list, according to Tomaschek, he sees a good chance as a Green in to enter the state legislature.
