Germany was also groaning under the summer heat these days.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), on Wednesday (July 20) the highest values since weather records began were reached in six federal states.

According to the DWD, Baden-Württemberg set a new heat record for the state.

In Bad Mergentheim-Neunkirchen, the thermometer showed 40.3 degrees, the previous nationwide record value for 2022 - and thus also cracked the almost 19-year-old record of 40.2 degrees.

This was achieved on August 13, 2003 in Freiburg.

A peak of 40.1 degrees was measured in Hamburg-Neuwiedenthal, also an all-time record for the Hanseatic city.

Cooling down in the water is also urgently needed in the coming days.

"The summer of 2022 seems to want to be one of the warmest since 1881, in Europe and also in Germany," the weather expert speculated.
