China condemned the Czech reception of a Taiwanese delegation, saying that this step violates the one-China principle adopted by the European Union.
The Chinese Embassy in Prague said in a statement yesterday that the visit of the so-called Taiwanese Parliament Speaker Yu Si-kun to the Czech Republic is a "violation of China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," adding that China calls on the Czech Republic to respect Chinese positions and fulfill its one-China commitments.
The embassy announced that Beijing "will take all necessary measures to curb Taiwan's independence tendencies."
The Czech Republic, like other European Union countries, adopts a one-China policy, but maintains close ties with the separatists in Taiwan.
China has consistently reiterated its refusal to interfere in its internal affairs, stressing that it will take resolute and effective measures to resolutely defend its sovereignty and security interests.
