"We were afraid of getting intoxicated and never waking up."
Jérémy Frérot and Laure Manaudou had to urgently leave their home in La Teste-de-Buch, in Gironde, while the region has been ravaged by flames for more than a week.
The 32-year-old singer, from the region, tells in the columns of
Parisian
his sadness to see the Arcachon basin, which he particularly likes, go up in smoke.
“
Here, before that, we had never seen a fire, neither my parents nor my grandmother.
It makes me really sad, we're not used to it, we don't know how to handle it, and we thought it would only happen to others
.
And yet, on the night of July 18 to 19, Jérémy Frérot and his wife, as well as their three children, were forced to evacuate their home threatened by the flames.
"
Yesterday, from the path leading to my house, I saw the flames of the forest,
he says,
it was getting bigger and last night, we had to evacuate, there was too much smoke, it was unbearable
"
.
And to add: “
It was coming into the house, impossible to fall asleep, we were afraid of
".
The couple therefore preferred to
"play it safe"
and take refuge a few kilometers away, in the town of Gujan-Mestras, before the mayor of La Teste-de-Buch asked
"the whole area to evacuate"
.
"And since then it's been burning, it's been burning, and we still see these clouds of smoke in front of us"
, continues Jérémy Frérot.
On their respective Instagram accounts, the couple also mourns the destruction of a restaurant they particularly like, La Salie Sud, located in La Teste-de-Buch.
