The Balearic government's so-called "anti-booze tourism law" is now being implemented: A total of eight bars are now being closed for violating the new regulations.

Palma – More than a party mile: The Balearic Islands have been trying for a long time to distance themselves from the image of the proletarian party stronghold.

A big step was therefore the so-called “anti-booze tourism law” passed in 2020 to stop the excesses on Playa de Palma, in Magaluf, and also in Sant Antoni on Ibiza.

Although popular tourist destinations such as the Ballermann create a considerable income opportunity, various initiatives are intended to increase the quality of tourist offers and, if possible, to put off the so-called "drinking vacationers".

Well, it seems the Balearic government is proving how serious it is about the new regulations.

Because of various violations of the "anti-booze tourism law", eight bars in Mallorca are now being closed until further notice, as the regional Ministry of Tourism announced in Palma on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

According to the information, four of them are located on the Ballermann on Playa de Palma, which is particularly popular with German visitors, the other four in the British holiday and party stronghold of Magaluf.

In addition to the closures, investigations into violations of the law had been initiated in over 90 cases, it said.

As

reports, the operators of the affected bars are accused of having served alcohol outside of the legally permitted times.

Furthermore, minors are said to have successfully ordered spirits and the like.

Some venues have also been accused of violating the law through sexist advertising and the humiliation of women.

The authorities did not say whether the affected premises are bars, discotheques, restaurants or beach kiosks.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Tourism told the

Mallorca Zeitung

that this information and the names of the restaurants should not be passed on for data protection reasons.

However, potential guests will soon get a real sense of it when the party of their choice says: The party is over.
