RTVE has decided not to renew the fashion talent search program after the discreet audience figures obtained for its fifth season.

The format produced by Shine Iberia began its journey in Spain in 2018 with Lorenzo Caprile, Palomo Spain and María Escoté as judges, who remained throughout its five editions.

In its last season, whose broadcast ended in April 2022, it achieved an average audience of 9.5% and 1,099,000 viewers.

They are discreet data but still higher than the average of the chain, which closed April with an 8.3% average share.

Already in its fourth season

Masters of sewing

suffered to be renewed.

Then, the Association of Fashion Creators of Spain has already warned about the possible cancellation of a program that "has brought Spanish author fashion to

prime time

on television", in addition to being "a support platform for the young talents of our country that want to gain a foothold in the world of fashion”, as Pepa Bueno, executive director of the association, explained to EL PAÍS last year.

Finally, TVE announced in September the renewal for a fifth installment of the program in which veteran apprentices and new contestants were combined.

Palomo Spain, María Escoté and Lorenzo Caprile, judges of 'Sewing Masters'.

Sources from the production company recall that, although the official reason for the cancellation is the poor performance in audiences, the total figures for live and deferred monitoring exceed one and a half million viewers each week as a whole, and that in March one of the broadcasts of the program was the most watched of La 1. In addition, the last edition of the space had a reduction in budget and production time, which affected the

casting

process , among other factors.

Since its premiere in 2018, the show's viewership had plummeted, losing 800,000 viewers along the way.

The first installment averaged 1,886,000 viewers and a 13.7% audience share.

The second, in 2019, fell to 1,436,000 viewers and an 11.7% share.

The third, in 2020, rose to 1,535,000 viewers (13.4%), driven by the confinement, which coincided with the last broadcasts of the program.

The fourth and penultimate installment averaged 1,334,000 viewers and an 11.3% share.

The other great format of Shine Iberia on TVE,

MasterChef

, is still going ahead after the tenth edition ended on Sunday with the victory of María Lo and is already recording its seventh installment of the version with celebrities.
