Washington-Sana

The US military has dramatically lowered its expectations for the number of young men it will enlist over the next two years at a time when, according to its top generals, it faces unprecedented challenges.

The Associated Press quoted US military officials as saying today, "The number of American soldiers will be reduced by ten thousand soldiers from the final strength planned for the current fiscal year," and they expect that the prospects for the next year will be bleaker.

The Deputy Chief of Staff of the US Army, General Joseph Martin, said that he expects the total number of American soldiers to be 466,000 soldiers this year, down from the expected numbers, which were around 476,000, and that the US army may end the year 2023 in light of the presence of 445 to 452,000 soldiers. Pointing out that it depends on the success of the recruitment process.

According to US military leaders, with only two and a half months left in the fiscal year, the Army has achieved only 50 percent of its goal of 60,000 troops and is likely to miss its recruitment goals by 25 percent by October 1.

Data from the US Department of Defense, "Pentagon" this month, revealed that a smaller number of American youth want to serve in the army, as only 9 percent of young people showed an inclination to serve, and this is the lowest number achieved in 15 years, and the most important reasons for not wanting to join are the possibility of injury, death or fear. Post-traumatic stress disorder or other psychological problems.
