Despite flight chaos, Ryanair has managed to get through this year with only a few flight cancellations.

Things are much worse for other airlines.

The aviation industry is currently in the grip of a shortage of staff.

Flight cancellations, long waiting times and orphaned suitcases characterize the picture of summer vacation 2022. Travel planning is not exactly easy - after all, it is unclear how the situation will develop in the next few weeks.

The aviation research company OAG is therefore presenting flight data from airlines, authorities and other sources at just the right time.

An analysis shows which airlines are currently reliable - and which are not.

High flyer Ryanair?

Airline canceled only 0.3 percent of the planned flights

Low-cost airline Ryanair was the most reliable airline in the world between January 1 and July 10, 2022, data analysis by OAG reveals, according to Sky News.

Flights that were only canceled within 48 hours of departure had a negative impact on the rating.

At Ryanair, this was only the case for 0.3 percent of flights – which, conversely, means that the airline’s customers were hardly affected by short-term cancellations.

Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary attributes the company's success to getting flight crew back early.

In addition, the Irish-based company is not affected by the consequences of Brexit.

Since then, many UK-based airlines have been short of staff from the EU.

More than a third cancelled: China Eastern as the most unreliable airline in 2022

But things can also be different: according to OAG data, the China Eastern airline was particularly unreliable this year.

A whopping 37.9 percent of flights would have to be cancelled.

This makes the airline the sad loser.

Also at the lower end of the scale are Air Canada with 5.3 percent flight cancellations, as well as Qantas (5.1 percent), Air China (5.1 percent) and KLM (5 percent).

With Lufthansa, a German airline is also included in the evaluation: Only 1.5 percent of the flights had to be canceled here.
