District - Also this year, the companies from industry, trade and services in the district of Starnberg are struggling with a large shortage of applicants for their training positions.

There are currently 313 apprenticeship positions that have not yet been filled.

That is 32 percent more than last year.

This offer is offset by 132 unplaced applicants, according to the statistics from the employment agency at the end of June.

In purely arithmetical terms, there are around two apprenticeships for every unplaced young person in the district.

“Our training companies continue to rely on the training of their own junior staff.

This year, too, the entrepreneurs are offering many apprenticeships.

But there are by no means enough applicants for all positions," says Katja Lindo, Chairwoman of the Starnberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce Regional Committee.

Two trends are of particular concern to companies: the number of school leavers is falling from year to year and many are more inclined towards an academic education.

However, the IHK points out that around a third of all first-year students end their studies prematurely and without a degree.

"Practical vocational training could be a better start to working life for many young women and men," says Lindo.

In addition, the corona pandemic has prevented trial internships, career information days or training fairs.

"One of the main tasks of a school - regardless of whether it is a grammar school, middle school or junior high school - should include not only imparting basic knowledge but also realistic career orientation that takes all paths to a dream job equally into account," demands Lindo to strengthen dual training.

"This includes that the students also get an insight into local companies, get to know the many advantages of the dual training system and the parents are also taken along.

The subject of careers orientation must be taken seriously in schools and should reflect the entire range of job profiles.

This is the only way for everyone to find their dream job and thus support the economy in the region in the long term as a motivated specialist.”

The IHK regional committee chairwoman warns: "Without well-trained young professionals, the already worrying shortage of staff will become even worse.

Ultimately, the great challenges of our time, such as energy transition and climate neutrality, cannot be achieved without skilled workers.” She appeals to all those who are still undecided: “There are many doors open in the region!”

The information provided by the Employment Agency on the training place market relates to all areas of the training place market, which, in addition to companies in industry, trade and services (IHK), also includes crafts, the liberal professions and the public sector.

The IHK stands for around 60 percent of all apprenticeships.

In the first half of the year, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria recorded 8,553 newly concluded training contracts throughout Upper Bavaria, an increase of 2.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

There are around 220 IHK training companies in the district of Starnberg.
