A mother picked up her 5-year-old daughter from kindergarten in Pfaffenhausen (Unterallgäu district) on Wednesday (July 20).
"While they were walking down Burgstrasse, a large black dog came out of a property on Burgstrasse and suddenly attacked the 5-year-old girl," police said on Thursday.
He bit the girl several times, and the dog also bit her mother's leg.
The 5-year-old was seriously injured.

At some point the dog let go of the two, and the injured mother immediately went to the hospital with her daughter.
The doctor there eventually informed the police.
This found the owner of the animal and made sure that "the dog is immediately kept safe".

The administrative community Pfaffenhausen and the service dog handlers of the police headquarters in Swabia are now carrying out a detailed assessment of the dog and its attitude.
The officials are investigating against the owner on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm.
