Enthusiastic choirs and an impressive composition by a former student: the two successful concerts at the Gabriel-von-Seidl-Gymnasium in Tölz opened the festivities marking the 101-year anniversary of the school.

Bad Tölz – Numerous music ensembles showed the extensive musical work on Tuesday and Wednesday, which revived after two years of pandemic restrictions.

A special innovation was made visible by the choirs structured according to age groups.

In the program they were no longer called the lower or middle school choir, but "Shiny Choir" and "Vox de Seidl" - so named by the participants themselves during the rehearsal week in Burghausen, in which over 80 students took part.

The youngest wore colorful T-shirts and brought color to the stage design, which was dominated by white and black.

In the muggy Kurhaus, they provided musical refreshment with the musical song "Sieben Wochen Regen" from "Ritter Rost".

The "Shiny Choir" delighted the audience with their clear pronunciation, powerful singing and visible joy in singing.

Music teacher Andrea Günthör-Schumann, who took over the decades-long work of Elisabeth Scheucher, is responsible for the new choir direction.

The latter was retired far too quietly during the pandemic.

Orchestra leader Edgar Schumann paid tribute to her again at the end of the concert, so that she received long, hearty applause from the school family.

The young orchestra and the young choir also received a lot of applause.

Charming and humorous presentation

With the radio hit "Wellerman", performed by the vocal ensemble of the upper school, the high school graduates said goodbye.

One of them, Charlotte Rein, moderated the evening with Kilian Widmann (9a) in a charming and humorous way.

The former high school students Yannick Renn and Anton Weinmann have embarked on a career in music.

In the concert, baritone Weinmann sang the specially rewritten piece “Der Junge am Klavier”, which Renn wrote in 2016 when he was still a student.

A grateful review of school days was heard with the orchestra, conducted by Edgar Schumann.

The audience showed their appreciation with long applause.

The school band "Gabs on Fire" honored Paul McCartney on his 80th birthday with a Beatles medley, rehearsed by Florian Rein.

Everyone clapped along with "Hey Jude" and created a festival atmosphere.

The big band "Young Groove Teeth", led by Peter Zoelch, presented hits such as "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars and "Don't stop me now" by Freddy Mercury.

Symphony orchestra with a rousing finale

The conversions between the different sized ensembles as well as the lighting and technical direction were carried out by about two dozen students from the school's Technology and Event AG, headed by Eva Maria Emmler.

For a change, Elisabeth Artmeier-Mogl's concert project choir played slower and quieter notes with the well-known "Moon River", as did "Flautissimo", Emmler's flute ensemble.

The symphony orchestra and "Vox de Seidl" presented a rousing finale: for the big celebration, they dared to play Beethoven's 4th movement from the "Ode to Joy" and mastered the piece brilliantly.

When the large crowd of musicians gathered on and in front of the stage, the audience celebrated the students and their successful concert.
