Climate experts have warned of the danger of melting ice in the Greenland region, located between the North Pole and the Atlantic Ocean, as a result of unprecedented warming.
And the British Daily newspaper quoted scientists from the US National Ice Data Center that the increase in temperatures during this month at a rate higher than usual by ten degrees has resulted in a significant melting of the ice sheet that makes up 80 percent of Greenland, which may lead to higher sea levels and thus increase the frequency of storm floods. in many of the world's largest coastal cities by the turn of the century.
The Arctic is warming rapidly due to climate change, with recent data revealing that Greenland is warming nearly four times faster than any other region in the world, and experts fear that summer sea ice could completely disappear by 2035.
In February, scientists from the Scott Polar Institute for Research in Cambridge found that the ice sheet is melting from bottom to top and considered it the largest contributor to sea level rise in the world.
On July 27 last year, Columbia University climate scientist Marco Tedesco reported that the Greenland ice sheet lost 8.5 billion tons of surface mass in one day, which is enough to cover the US state of Florida.
