Towards an agreement?
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, today (Friday) referred to the negotiations on an agreement to export wheat from Ukraine and said that "good news" is expected in the coming hours.
Turkey serves as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine on the issue of wheat exports from Ukraine, after Russia blocked shipping traffic from Ukraine's ports to the Black Sea as part of Moscow's invasion of the country that began in February.
According to the agreement, Turkey and the United Nations will monitor the following ships in Ukrainian ports and make sure that they are loaded with weapons for Ukraine.
In response, the Ukrainians will remove the maritime blockade around the port of Odessa, the largest port in the country, and the Turks will escort the vessels to and from the port.

Even before the announcement of the signing of the agreement, wheat prices began to fall in the world markets.
More than 22 million tons of Ukrainian wheat are in the country and have not yet left its territory for world markets.
Ukraine produces between two percent and ten percent of all wheat in the world and blocking the supply of wheat from Ukraine significantly increased the price of the grain.
The Ukrainians announced today that they will not sign the agreement with Russia directly, but with the Turks and the UN, who will sign it with Russia. In Ukraine, they refuse to directly discuss agreements with Russia. Mykhailo Podoliak, an advisor to President Zelensky, told the country's media: "We are not We will sign no agreement with Russia, certainly not at this stage.
We will reach the necessary conclusions with Turkey and the UN."
