Thousands of visitors are expected, around 1200 traditional costumers will take part in the parade alone: From July 27th to 31st, the Heimat und Trachtenverein d'Ammertaler Dießen/St.

Georgen's 100th birthday and his marching band's 50th birthday.

Plus two, to be precise.

Dießen – Nadja Lindner, spokeswoman for the Heimat- und Trachtenverein d'Ammertaler Dießen/St.

Georgen, sounds a bit breathless.

Because after almost five years of preparation, the "Festtage am See" will finally take place for the 100th birthday of the traditional costume association and the 50th birthday of its marching band, the countdown is on.

Especially on the weekend, July 30th and 31st, thousands of people in colorful costumes will fill the Diessen lakeside facilities, when the traditional costumes and crafts market and a festival parade will also attract people to Dießen.

Five years of preparation lie behind the costumers, because the club actually had its milestone birthday in 2020 - as did the marching band.

"We started preparing for this back in 2017," remembers Lindner.

Then Corona paralyzed all activities.

So now folks and musicians are celebrating two anniversaries "plus two" - with all the trimmings, a musicians' competition and the market with more than 50 exhibitors.

Anniversary celebration starts with Radio Oberland's Heimathit evening on Friday

It starts on Wednesday with a home hit evening by Radio Oberland.

The fun starts at 8 p.m. in the marquee, which is being set up in the lake facilities these days.

On Thursday everyone can catch their breath again.

Except for the organizers and helpers: "We will set up the tent, we need the day for that," explains Lindner.

The tent has space for a good 1,500 chairs.

There is also an outdoor area with a beer garden.

The costumers then eagerly await the anniversary evening on Friday, July 29th.

"We organize it together with the traditional costume association Raisting-Sölb," reports Lindner.

He is celebrating his 75th birthday this year, for which he had also planned a historical costume meeting, as is taking place on Sunday at the festival parade in Dießen.

"They changed their plans then, which is very nice.

That is why we are now organizing the anniversary evening together.” Guests from the USA and the Czech Republic, from sponsoring associations and from the Huosigau are expected to attend.

On Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the traditional costume and handicraft market not only invites you to stroll around the lake, but there is also a lot of music and entertainment in the marquee.

On Sunday, after a festival service, there is first a church procession and then, from 3 p.m., the festival procession with around 1200 participants.

Lindner hopes that it won't get too hot "and then cancel many".

Further information and tickets are available online at trachtenverein.diessen.de.

The Trachtenverein stands for a tradition-conscious coexistence of all generations.

There were once two traditional costume associations in the market town, but they were merged into one after the Second World War.

The active members dance, plattln, spin and sing together all year round, supported by the musicians of the marching band for 52 years.

Of course, the whole thing is then shown at dance events and performances.

The folks from Dießen have also been proving their talent for turning and turning in competitions for decades.

For 16 years in a row, the people from Dießen were the group winners at the Huosigau Prize Plattln.

In the national competition for the Bavarian Lion, the boys and girls already impressed with 20 first places.

The association survived the pandemic with online campaigns.

For example, there was a radi cutting course and a carnival party was also held online.

"Everyone stayed with us," says Lindner.

"Only at the end did you feel a digital disenchantment."

"Dancing is joie de vivre," says Nadja Lindner.

"It doesn't matter whether you've been with it all your life or only later discovered the joy of Bavarian dance.

Anyone who wants to try something new or refresh an old passion is welcome in the Trachtenverein.”
