Prepare for chaos on the roads: tomorrow the train traffic between Haifa and Tel Aviv will be stopped for a week | Israel Hayom

2022-07-23T17:48:01.313Z

As part of the "Eastern Rail" project, Israel Railways will carry out works that will cause changes in train traffic.

At the height of summer: tomorrow (Sunday) there will be significant changes in train traffic on the coast line, precisely on the day when IDF soldiers return to bases. Due to railway works, train traffic between Haifa and Tel Aviv will be suspended.

The Israel Railways announcement stated: "The date of the works was set in advance for the summer months, when there is a decrease in the amount of travel. The 'Eastern Rail' project (which is why the changes; AG) will be an additional axis between the north, the center and the south, and will enable a significant improvement of the train service all over the country.

This, alongside a significant increase in cargo transportation, which will reduce road congestion and air pollution, and increase road safety."

Soldiers will be dragged on the road for hours

A combat soldier who spoke to Israel Hayom strongly criticizes the move: "Cutting the line in the middle is a very significant thing for a soldier. You plan everything so that you can get to the station in time, and even then there are train delays. Of course there is an option to travel by bus, but there are few Lines and the pressure is enormous. It's a real nightmare," she said.

A soldier who serves in the Golan Heights expresses enormous anger at the train: "There is no convenient transportation to the Golan Heights, the train does not take into account the soldiers who travel home on Sunday and Thursday. It is a nightmare. Soldiers are carried on buses and spread everywhere. As a soldier who comes from the center to the Golan Heights several times a week as part of his job, It's just a hard blow. I don't want to think about what citizens who travel by train every day will do. Will they take a vacation? No - they will travel in cars, or fight with me for a seat on the bus, and it will really be a burden."
