The World Health Organization today (Saturday) declared a global emergency due to the spread of the monkeypox virus.
This is the seventh time such an announcement has been made since 2009, with the last being for the coronavirus in 2020.
Monkeypox (in English: monkeypox) - is a viral disease that was first discovered among animals, and in 1970 the first person infected with the virus was found.
The name of the disease came up again at the beginning of 2022 after a case of infection in the UK that was discovered in a person who had returned from Nigeria, and over time many thousands were diagnosed in the world and a few people died.
So far, about 100 confirmed cases have been discovered in Israel.
Monkeypox can be contracted from another person, an infected animal or - less likely - from a contaminated object.
Person-to-person infection may occur by droplet transmission from a close distance.
It also occurs in direct contact with the rash or with body fluids or with contaminated objects such as dishes, sheets, clothes and bandages.
It is also possible to become infected during sexual intercourse, apparently following continuous contact with lesions on the skin and mucous membranes.
