Three decades later: the Jewish community in Argentina doubts the Mossad's conclusions about the attacks Israel today

In Buenos Aires, they were surprised to hear about the published investigation according to which Iran did not take an active part in carrying out the two attacks and that the operation was Hezbollah's exclusive revenge.

In Argentina, they reacted with astonishment to the statements published on Friday in the "New York Times" according to which Iran did not take an active part on the ground in carrying out the two attacks in the 1990s and that this was an exclusive act of revenge by Hezbollah.

The explosion of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 and the Jewish community building about two years later left a wound that remains open to this day among the country's residents and the Jewish community in particular.

False accusations, endless trials and the mysterious death of the prosecutor who investigated the Iranian penetration in Latin America only increased the doubt that the truth will still come to light after about three decades have passed since the events that burned in the mind.

The conclusions of the Mossad as published by the Israeli journalist in "The Times" on Friday, were received with a combination of astonishment and doubt, and are still awaiting Israel's official answer.

"It seems impossible to me," says a source from Argentina's Jewish community to "Israel Today" who preferred to remain anonymous in view of his position.

"It seems to me more like "New York Times" propaganda in order to clean up Iran and pave the way for the nuclear agreement," he estimated.

As mentioned, the article contradicts the findings of the authorities in Argentina as well as the official line that guided Israel and the US for decades, according to which Iran is responsible at the level of planning the attacks and also assisted in the field.

Louis Sizevsky lost his daughter Paula in the terrible attack, he spoke to "Israel Hayom" about his feelings about the "Mssad's conclusions".

"The article clearly says that Iran approved, financed and provided equipment and training to Hezbollah, which was the one who carried out the attack. And that is what is in the indictment," he clarified.

"Why is the movement of Iranian diplomats in Argentina not mentioned a lot in the days before the attack? This is something that has been legally proven," Sizevsky asks in astonishment.

"This indication shows that indeed Iran gave some assistance to Hezbollah in carrying out the attack," he added.

Finally, the bereaved father questions the findings published according to which the sabotage materials were "smuggled in shampoo bottles and chocolate boxes using commercial flights from Europe", as written in the American newspaper.

Sizevsky notes that the main explosive used in the attack was Ammonel - "a substance that was freely available in every hardware store in the country. Why would the Iranians try to smuggle it in when they can get it anywhere in Argentina?".

The Iranian agent in the field, Sheikh Mohsen Rabbani, served as "cultural attache" at the Islamic Republic's embassy in Buenos Aires.

In the investigation conducted by the special prosecutor, Alberto Nisman, it was found that Rabbani actively assisted in the planning of the 1994 attack, which is in complete contradiction to the Mossad's alleged findings published in The Times regarding the lack of Iranian involvement in the massacre.
