A major fire is currently occupying the fire brigade in the Regen district in Lower Bavaria.

An abandoned hotel ruin caught fire, the damage is immense.

Bischofsmais/Habischried - Broken furniture, abandoned hotel rooms, horror at the discarded indoor pool: the "Charm" wellness hotel has repeatedly made the headlines in recent years - even though it has been closed since 2016.

The ruins of the hotel complex, a so-called "Lost Place", always attract onlookers.

Numerous videos on YouTube show how bloggers or influencers go on a discovery tour through the ruins on their own.

Entering the site is actually forbidden.

Late on Saturday evening (July 23), the hotel complex in Habischried (Regen district) burned down almost completely.

Around 11:30 p.m., the police in Lower Bavaria received several emergency calls.

"When the first emergency services arrived, flames several meters high were already coming out of the roof," the police said on Sunday.

Fire in hotel ruins: fire brigade can prevent the fire from spreading to the forest

Since the entire hotel borders a forest, it was a top priority to prevent the flames from spreading.

The 350 emergency services finally succeeded, and a forest fire could be prevented.

"The cause of the fire is completely unclear at this point in time." The permanent criminal service of the Kripo Straubing is on site and is investigating.

The first witnesses have already been heard, as the responsible police headquarters informed the BR.

It is currently still unclear whether a fire broke out during one of the unauthorized discovery tours.

In any case, the investigators gave the all-clear for the time being: "Fortunately, no one has been injured so far." The police estimate the total damage to the building at at least 3.5 million euros.

The 350 emergency services and the investigators continue their work at the scene of the fire on Sunday.
