The Chinese Manned Space Agency today announced the launch of the first-of-its-kind laboratory module "Wentian" for the Chinese space station.

It is expected to complete the construction work of the Chinese space station “Tiangong” this year, after which it will develop from a single-module structure into a three-module national space laboratory, the basic unit “Tianhe” and the two laboratory units “Wentian” and “Mengtian”.
The main unit Tianhe was launched in April 2021, while the laboratory unit "Mengtian" is scheduled to be launched in October.
