The epidemic in Hong Kong has not eased. Before today (25th), more than 4,000 confirmed cases had been recorded in a single day for four consecutive days. Yesterday (24th), 4,250 new confirmed cases were reported, and eight more patients died, breaking the five-day mark. The highest number of deaths in a single day since January.
Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, pointed out that the number of confirmed cases is still on the rise and will "double" in about two to three weeks, that is, the number will increase to 8,000 in early August at the earliest.
