Playing outside in the summer heat: That can be dangerous.

A doctor from Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen recommends a siesta break - and special caution.

Not only older people are at risk of physical complaints at the current temperatures: children and young people should also be careful when romping in the sun.

Tobias Reploh, pediatrician in Bad Tölz, advises caution, especially with the youngest: "Children under the age of three should currently only be in the shade." In principle, it is important to ensure that the offspring have adequate skin protection.

It is best for mum and dad to apply sunscreen to their little ones half an hour before sunbathing and keep renewing the protection – especially on the “sun terraces”, i.e. nose, cheeks, lips and shoulders.

In addition to airy clothing, standard clothing should definitely include a hat.

The doctor recommends sports activities either before 11 a.m. or after 4.30 p.m. – “and not during the siesta break” around noon.

With the high temperatures, the little ones also have to drink a lot: "The youngest ones can drink twice or three times as much as usual," emphasizes Reploh.

Older children should drink at least two liters a day, preferably water or unsweetened tea.

And - even if the pediatrician otherwise advises against a high-sugar diet: "It's okay to have ice cream."
