India today announced the first case of monkeypox in the capital, New Delhi.
And the Press Trust of India news agency quoted official sources as saying that a person had tested positive for monkeypox as he was transferred to a government hospital in the capital, and he has no foreign travel history.
India had previously recorded three cases of monkeypox from Kerala, southwest India.
Yesterday, the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency due to the outbreak of monkeypox, as it launched the highest level of alert against monkeypox after 17,000 people have been infected with it so far and its spread in 74 countries.
