The NFT phenomenon entered our lives during the last few months, and the digital currency with which digital works can be purchased has acquired quite a few supporters and opponents.
While companies like Ubisoft have already started to implement NFT in the game Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and EA has already declared that this is the "domain of the future", it seems that the battle for blockchain technology continues to intensify.
During the last week, two huge companies have spoken out about the issue: the first is the Mojang company (which developed the popular Minecraft among children) which argued against the use of NFT, while on the other side was the Epic Games Store company, which indicated that it would not prohibit its users from adding the technology to games their.
Minecraft developer is not enthusiastic
Mojang released updates on how to use Minecraft on its official Twitter page, clarifying that it prohibits the use of NFT or blockchain technologies, all in order to prevent fraud and counterfeiting and keep its player community safe.
"In Minecraft we follow rules that will ensure that everyone in the community has access to the same content. However, NFT's may create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with the rules and access of the game"
"To ensure that all Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies They are not allowed to integrate into our servers or the game, in any way - whether it is worlds that the players create, skins, items, or mods."
In the bottom line, it seems that the creators of Minecraft are not big followers of NFT, but she did mention in the same breath that she will follow the developments in the future, and their decision on the subject may well change.

Fortnite developer, actually
Specifically Epic Games (the developer of Fortnite, another popular title among children) took the other side, and the company's CEO
Tim Sweeney
stated that in his opinion "developers should have the freedom to decide how they want to develop their games".
When Sweeney was asked on Twitter whether the Epic platform Game Store will take a similar approach as Mojang, he replied: "I believe the digital stores and platforms should not interfere and impose their worldview on the users.
We won't do that."
Sweeney went on to point out that NFTs do not violate the regulations and rules that the Epic Games Store platform has put in place: "A store can choose not to host on its servers anything that is illegal, or choose to stretch the battle on the accepted norms, or approve only compatible games the personal beliefs of the owner".

Tim Sweeney seems to have changed his mind since then, and previously expressed strong opposition to the issue.
Just last year he wrote a post on his private Twitter account stating: "We are not getting close to NFT and the whole field as of now is an intractable combination of decentralized technological foundations and scams."
Epic Games' change of stance is hard to ignore, especially given the fact that the NFT storm is beginning to fade over the past few months.
According to a survey conducted among various developer groups, about 70% responded negatively and claimed that they are not interested in developing games that use blockchain technology or games that contain micro-purchases.
For comparison, Epic Games' biggest competitor is Valve with the Steam platform, which has already stated that it will not support NFT and blockchain on its platform.
Currently, it seems that 2023 is the year of "to be or not" in the field of crypto and NFT, and slowly we understand what position each company and distributor takes on the subject.
