The plan announced by Foreign Minister Lavrov to also attack southern Ukraine could fail due to a lack of personnel.
But Ukraine also has problems.
Kyiv – Even almost five months after the start of the war of aggression against Ukraine, Russia's offensives on the neighboring country are not abating.
Nevertheless, the army of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin is encountering increasing problems - also because of arms deliveries from the West.
They recently brought Ukraine so far militarily that a Russian secret service offensive was launched in the neighboring European countries to spy on the transport routes.
In addition to the successfully used artillery systems of the Himar type, which the USA had supplied, Western combat aircraft and modern battle tanks could also be involved in the near future.
Military expert on the Ukraine war: Russia needs mobilization
The military expert Carlo Masala considers the
media reports, such as the
Washington Post , which recently point to an imminent expansion of western arms deliveries, to be quite realistic.
The professor of international politics at the Bundeswehr University in Munich sees such a development as an opportunity for Ukraine to recapture large-scale territory with counterattacks.
He said that on Friday (July 22) in the video column for the news portal
T-Online.de
.
Masala considers the announcement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that he will no longer only attack Ukraine in the Donbass to be less realistic at the moment.
Instead, Russia announced that it would expand the attacks to the south - possibly with the aim of cutting off Ukraine from the sea.
For Masala it does not seem "very likely that the Russian Federation will reach the goals in the south" as long as "a too high concentration of its soldiers" is stationed in the Donbass.
To do this, “a kind of mobilization” is first necessary.

Ukraine-News: Russia's artillery fires 60,000 rounds a day
The Russian army has also been faced with "logistical challenges" in recent weeks by the Himar-type missile launcher systems used for air defense, which are in use on the Ukraine side and have already destroyed several Russian ammunition depots.
However, according to Masala, there are still problems on the Ukrainian side: while Russia is still firing "about 60,000 artillery rounds every day," Ukraine is "running out of ammunition for its old Soviet artillery," according to the military expert according to which further western deliveries could be decisive for the war.
