A devastating forest fire is raging near the famous Yosemite National Park in California.
More than 6,000 people have been evacuated from the Mariposa area east of San Francisco, according to a fire department spokesman.
Ten houses fell victim to the flames, five more were destroyed, and another 2,700 buildings are threatened.
Due to the extreme drought, strong winds and high temperatures, the forest fire has been spreading at enormous speed since Friday afternoon.
According to the fire brigade, the explosive embers and wildfires made extinguishing the fire difficult.
Hundreds of firefighters are deployed with helicopters and fire engines, and by Saturday evening they had not been able to contain the fire.
The plume of smoke from the fire on Saturday could also be seen from space from the International Space Station ISS.
In early July, parts of Yosemite National Park had to be closed due to a massive forest fire.
The peak of the current heat wave is expected nationwide on Sunday, including on the east coast of the United States.
Scientists blame the climate crisis for the global accumulation of heat waves.
