The Indonesian police announced today the arrest of 17 terrorists during separate operations in three provinces.
"The anti-terrorist team of the National Police Densus 88 managed to arrest 13 terrorists in Aceh province and three others in North Sumatra, while it arrested another terrorist in Riau," Xinhua news agency quoted police command spokesman Ahmed Ramadan as saying, without giving further details about the arrests.
The spokesman added: "13 of the detainees are linked to a terrorist group calling itself the Islamic Group, some of them were responsible for weapons training, while others were responsible for financing the terrorist organization, and other terrorists were linked to another organization that carried out suicide terrorist attacks."
The Jamaat-e-Islami movement is linked to the terrorist organization (Al-Qaeda) and was behind the 2002 bombings on the Indonesian island of Bali, which killed more than two hundred people.
