The House of Representatives Committee in Washington is not the only one investigating Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Less publicized and taking place behind closed doors so far, a criminal investigation open in Georgia, however, represents the most immediate risk for the former president of having to answer for his actions in court.
Led by Fani Willis, the Fulton County prosecutor, which includes most of the city of Atlanta, this investigation opened in February 2021 does not specifically target Trump.
It is officially intended to examine
"
potential violations of Georgia law prohibiting solicitation of voter fraud, misrepresentation to state and local government", "collusion" and "conspiracy" as well as “involvement in acts of violence or threats against electoral authorities
”.
