The Lenggries mountain rescue service together with the Lenggries fire brigade managed an incredibly exciting mission on Sunday afternoon.

In the Seekar area, a pregnant young cattle fell into a water dam.

"Because the hole was three meters deep, the cow could not free itself," explains Josef Bergmayer from the mountain rescue service.

After the alarm was raised at around 11.30 a.m. by the owner of the cow - a farmer from Kirchbichl - it was decided to call the fire brigade for technical assistance.

“We have a special animal rescue harness for this,” says the commander of the Lenggries volunteer fire brigade, Johann Willibald.

In addition, a transport helicopter was organized.

“It's not that easy spontaneously on a Sunday.

But then we were lucky and the Heli Tirol company sent us a helicopter,” reports Bergmayer.

Everything went "like clockwork," he says.

A veterinarian sedated the pregnant young cattle, after which the rescue harness was put on.

"It's like going around the belly," explains Willibald.

"And then the helicopter lifted the cattle out of the pit," says Bergmayer and adds: "We were very fortunate that the enclosure had a diameter of a good three meters, so the animal could be lifted out without any problems." Then the cow was brought to the Seekaralm by helicopter on a 50 meter long rope.

"Apparently she has not suffered any injuries," says Bergmayer.

In addition to the helicopter crew and a veterinarian, four rescue workers and eight Lenggrieser Floriansjünger were involved in the four-hour rescue operation.

As strange as the mission sounds, it was almost routine for the mountain rescue service: rescuing animals from alpine terrain actually happens again and again.

"Therefore we are somewhat experienced in this regard," concludes Bergmeyer, relieved.
