An uproar broke out this morning (Monday) after a person called on the Internet to execute people who work in the State Attorney's Office for "betrayal of state institutions".
The statement was recorded in Spice, a Twitter tool for multi-participant conversations.
The speaker, who answered as Michael, was asked by one of the participants "What do you think is the most effective to change what is going on in the prosecutor's office, what steps do you think are the most effective?".
"Me, I have a somewhat extreme point of view, but it is quick and solves all problems," replied the speaker.
"They do a show trial, find the people who have a lot of evidence to catch them, people who have power today, who used their power to corrupt - paint a wall white, such a beautiful wall you know, paint it white, line them up, execute. And anyone who came after him, everyone who sees this scene where they are executed for betraying the state institutions and the state, everyone will come to sing about what they did,
The comments caused great anger online, and many users tagged the Israel Police in response to the recording.
Following the remarks, Knesset member Naama Lazimi (Labor) announced that she filed a complaint with the police against the speaker, whom she identified as an activist of the Likud party named Michael Ben Shoshan, for incitement to murder.
"The writing is on the wall. When the senior prosecutor's office is threatened - democracy is threatened," said MK Lazimi. "We must not stand by.
I demand that the commissioner see to it that this dangerous man is arrested for incitement to murder. The more troubling thing is that up to this moment all senior Likud officials are shrouded in silence and do not denounce his dangerous words. This must not be passed over in silence."
