Japan announced today that the alert was raised to the highest level after the eruption of the Sakurajima volcano in the southwestern Kagoshima Prefecture.
The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation reported that meteorological officials in Kagoshima Prefecture announced raising the alert to the fifth level, which requires the evacuation of citizens from the area, stressing that the volcano has become very active.
The officials indicated that the affected area is witnessing the fall of large volcanic rocks up to a distance of 2.5 kilometers after huge explosions that occurred yesterday evening, in addition to another huge explosion that occurred today, the smoke of which reached a height of 2,200 meters.
