Brussels-Sana
Today, the European Union approved the use of the Danish vaccine (Amphanex) against monkeypox, according to the Danish company that produces the drug.
And Sky News quoted the Danish pharmaceutical group (Bavarian Nordic) as saying: “The European Medicines Authority of the European Commission has agreed to expand the use of the “Amphanex” vaccine produced by the company to combat monkeypox.
It is noteworthy that the (Amphanex) vaccine against monkeypox has been approved in the European Union since 2013 as a vaccine against human smallpox.
The Amphanex vaccine is marketed in the United States under the name (Genius) and has been approved to combat monkeypox since 2019, making it the only vaccine licensed to prevent the disease.
The European Commission's approval of the Danish vaccine comes after the World Health Organization launched the highest level of alert last Saturday in an attempt to contain an outbreak of monkeypox, which has so far infected about 17,000 people in 74 countries, mostly in Europe.
It is noteworthy that the first cases of monkeypox in humans were discovered in 1970 and it is less dangerous and contagious than the human smallpox that was eradicated in 1980.
