A humpback whale emerged this Sunday and pounced against the bow of a small boat off White Horse Beach, near Plymouth, on the Massachusetts coast, according to local authorities.
The incident was captured on video and caused part of the boat to sink for a few moments, which did not suffer leaks and was later recovered, without causing any injuries on board.
"It was crazy," a witness to the incident explained to the local NBC News station in Boston: "The guy was in the wrong place, at the wrong time, that's all," he said of the ship's captain.
"I just saw the boat go flying, it was crazy, I couldn't believe it was still floating," Ryder Parkhurst added.
Local authorities reported that a boat from the port of Plymouth went to check the condition of the boat's occupants and reported that there were no injuries or significant damage that affected its seaworthiness.
It is unknown if the whale was injured.

Maritime authorities were monitoring the area that day to ensure safety after a boat was struck by a whale on Friday, NBC Boston reported.
Plymouth Harbor Master Chad Hunter said many boats had gone out recreational fishing on Sunday because of the large numbers of bait fish, which also attract whales.

Boaters are advised to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from the whales to "minimize potential interactions."
"This interaction, while rare, is a reminder that they can be dangerous to both boaters and whales," Hunter said.
