Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei for his support during his visit to Ukraine on Monday.
"I am grateful to Guatemala for its clear and constant support for our state, for the protection of our sovereignty, for its firm position as protector of human rights and the fundamental right of each nation to freedom and independence," Zelensky said.

At a joint press conference on Monday, Zelensky said that the cost of living in dozens of states and Latin America is unfairly increasing "just because one state, the Russian Federation, decided to undermine existing political and economic relations in the world." .

The heads of state also announced an agreement to eliminate the visa requirement between the nations, which Zelensky said will help develop trade and social ties between the two countries.
"Guatemala confirmed its interest in acquiring agricultural products from Ukraine and in establishing labor relations," Zelensky said.
The Guatemalan president affirmed that "we are dismayed by the pain and devastation that Ukraine is currently suffering, of which I have witnessed when visiting the places where the horrors of this confrontation have been felt."
"In one of the darkest moments of this century, we wanted to come here to reiterate our full support for President Zelensky, who, with his leadership, courage and great dignity, holds this nation together," he added.

Giammattei urged the nations of the world to come together and put their differences behind them.
"Nations of the world, let us unite. What if we leave behind our differences and stop dividing ourselves? What if, instead of facing each other, we face the causes that put humanity at risk?"
This is the first visit of a Guatemalan head of state to Ukraine in the history of their bilateral relations, according to Zelensky, and it is “in general, the first visit of a Latin American leader since February 24, and in the last 12 years. ”.
