Permanent construction sites and the start of the holidays: The ADAC expects enormous traffic jams in Bavaria at the weekend.

Northern Bavaria is particularly affected.

Nuremberg/Munich – This weekend (July 29th to 31st) the Bavarians face the “busiest weekend” of the entire year.

Travelers need a lot of patience on the freeways in Bavaria.

"With the start of the school holidays in the last two federal states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the whole of Germany is now in the summer holidays," announced the ADAC on Monday.

This means that many people start their holiday from the south, in other federal states the holidays are already ending and holidaymakers start their journey home from the south via Bavaria.

ADAC expects traffic jams in Bavaria for the weekend: construction sites are a burden on travel

The ADAC predicts peak times with particularly heavy traffic jams, especially on Friday afternoons, Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.

If you don't want to start your summer vacation with a permanent traffic jam, you should - if possible - think about another travel date during the week, for example Tuesday or Wednesday in the coming week, according to the message.

In northern Bavaria, numerous permanent construction sites would increase the traffic jam problem.

The autobahn sections that are “most prone to congestion” therefore include “this summer again the A3 between Nuremberg, Würzburg and Frankfurt, the A6 between Nuremberg and Heilbronn and the A9 between Halle/Leipzig and Nuremberg as well as further in the direction of Munich.” Tourist traffic:

  • A3 between Erlangen and Kreuz Biebelried

  • A6/A9 Nürnberg-Ost junction

  • A7 between Würzburg and Bad Hersfeld

  • A7 junction Feuchtwangen/Crailsheim and Würzburg

  • A73 between Kreuz Nürnberg-Süd and Nürnberg Hafen-Ost

It was only on Monday that the truck block clearances at the border led to a traffic jam.

Bavaria had blocked the secret paths along the A8 and A93.

ADAC with tips for vacationers: "Anti-cyclical driving is recommended"

The ADAC points out that you should start your journey well rested and fit, especially with the currently very high temperatures, "because your concentration when driving quickly decreases, especially in warm and muggy temperatures." Jürgen Hildebrandt, Head of the Traffic Department at the ADAC also recommends a "holiday check of the tyres, the cooling levels and the functionality of the air conditioning system".

"Drinking a lot" is also extremely important.

If you want to go on holiday with as few traffic jams as possible, you should “drive anti-cyclically”.

Means: It is better to start your journey in the early morning hours or late in the evening in order to avoid the main travel time.

This is how travelers “probably escape the biggest traffic jams”.
