Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh discussed with representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) the steps to launch a project related to agro-food processing.
Minister Sabbagh stressed the importance and vitality of the project and that the issue of agro-food processing is one of the priorities of the ministry's work, pointing to the importance of developing a work map based on the survey that will be conducted to determine the priorities in the work, which include the public and private sectors.
The official of industrial development in the organization, Alexey Savrasov, indicated that the duration of the project, which will be funded by Russia for 3 years, is directed to the food industries and aims for cooperation between the concerned authorities, and that the organization will invest all capabilities and expertise to make it a success, as it will achieve progress and development in the food industries within Syria, making it a starting point for projects other.
For his part, Firas Ghanem, the project coordinator, pointed out that the first phase of it focuses on surveying the current reality of food manufacturing in Syria and analyzing it in order to optimize the manufacturing chains and developing an integrated plan that includes the direction to support the manufacturing process from training centers and educational and technical bodies and to secure all the necessary equipment for the transition in the next phase. For companies and laboratories, projects of other international organizations in Syria will also be reviewed to search for common points in the projects established to reach an integrated work.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to prepare a memorandum of understanding that will be signed as soon as possible.
The meeting was attended by the Assistant Minister of Industry, Asaad Warda and Ayman Al-Khoury.
