The FDP is again in favor of nuclear power plants running longer.

The SPD and the Greens continue to have security concerns.

Berlin - "Not only Germany is facing a serious energy crisis, but all of Europe," said Christian Dürr, FDP parliamentary group leader, the

German Press Agency

.

The politician is in favor of extending the service life of the remaining nuclear power plants in the country.

“We must be able to export electricity to our neighbors at all times.

Extending the service life of German nuclear power plants would therefore be an important sign of European solidarity.

We should think outside the box and be considerate of our partners.”

Energy crisis: FDP wants to operate nuclear power plants by 2024

The FDP is planning to extend the term to 2024.

“This is the period when we are threatened with energy shortages.

That's why we have to be prepared for it," said Michael Kruse, energy policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group.

The SPD and the Greens initially rejected further operation of the reactors, since there was still no solution for storing the nuclear waste.

There are also still security concerns, said SPD chairwoman Saskia Eskens in the ZDF morning magazine.

Chancellor Scholz wants to wait for the stress test

Chancellor Olaf Scholz would like to wait for a second stress test that Robert Habeck's Ministry of Economic Affairs had announced.

The authority examines whether the electricity sector can be reliably supplied and whether the network can be operated without risk - despite reduced gas supplies from Russia.

The results would come "in the next few weeks," said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The economy minister commented on Russia's gas supplies being cut again.

“We are in a serious situation.

It's about time that everyone understood that," he said on Monday evening on

ARD

's daily topics.

Energy crisis: Germany must reduce gas consumption

Germany must reduce gas consumption.

"We're working on that." The measures would have to be implemented consistently.

The country must stand together and say: "Yes, Putin has the gas, but we have the power." Habeck described Gazprom's attempts at explanations as "farce stories".

"Now it depends on how economical we are," he said, referring to possible scenarios in winter.

Supply to industry would be reduced in the event of a gas shortage.

Only then will it be the turn of hospitals and private households.
