The tenants are from America, but the minimalism is from Scandinavia.

The project:

Renovation of an apartment in a tower in the north of Tel Aviv

Area:

A young couple with two children, new immigrants from the USA, decided to move Israel at the peak of the Corona epidemic Corona. They landed straight in the old north in Tel Aviv, to a contractor's apartment in a relatively old tower (15 years), with an area of 140 square meters + a balcony of 14 square meters.

The apartment was in reasonable condition, but "lacking character" to the taste of the new immigrants, and they asked the interior designer Noa Kuperman to design their house in a minimalist style and that everything in the house would have its place, in order to avoid disorder in the house.

"These are requests that I found very easy to connect with, because my work method encourages order in the house. At the beginning of each project, I ask the clients to prepare equipment lists that include all their items - kitchen accessories, amounts of clothing, games, etc., with the aim of designating a place for them in the carpentry planning. This is how we get a house that looks clean, neat and peaceful," explains Kuperman.

Few elements and many storage solutions, so everything has a place and there is no disorder.

There was a requirement to produce a new position plan for the apartment, and to match it with items that would characterize the tenants - who defined themselves as people who like calmness.

Kuperman planned and designed the apartment with a concept of minimalism, calm and Zen, with fewer elements and more storage solutions, and the use of calming materials such as wood and beige shades that dominate the house.

The renovation lasted six months from the beginning of the project to its end.

"According to the requirements and needs of the customers, we changed the layout plan of the house. The original plan had guest services, a laundry room and a tiny children's room. The customers asked to enlarge the children's room and design a central bathroom. I enlarged the children's room at the expense of the guest services and the laundry room, and created one space of a bathroom with guest toilets and lots of space for hidden storage, where, for example, the washing machine and dryer, the vacuum cleaner and even drawers for laundry are separated by color," explains Kuperman.

The kitchen and the living room also changed in the renovation, Kuperman redesigned the kitchen, and as a result certain changes were also requested in the living room, for example its direction - which was completely changed in the new plan.

"The first space you see when you enter the apartment is that of the kitchen and the dining area. I created the kitchen with two concept doors that can be opened and closed. When they are closed, they hide the work surface that is full of accessories. It connects to the minimalist line of the house and thus I was able to hide the items that create a more cluttered look." .

The kitchen has a long island that stretches for 3.2 meters and on it a dekton surface that includes a sink, the refrigerators in the kitchen are integral and the stove has a built-in hood.

"Next to the island are handmade bar stools, which give a very natural look and in my opinion are really works of art. And the dining area is made of a marble slab called the "Taj Mahal" with wooden legs, and it is made in Israel," Kuperman elaborates.

Further down the space is the living room, which "turned around" and now faces a different direction than originally.

The living room wall is entirely covered in wood and serves as a large storage space, where family members store albums, games, books, next to a cabinet with alcohol as well as advanced electrical systems for a smart home controlled by smart switches and an app on mobile phones.

And so the minimalist line is also preserved in the living room.

From the living room there is an exit to the balcony, the floor of which is made of beige marble laid out in a "fishbon" configuration.

"Since in the new arrangement of the living room the back of the sofa is exposed, I chose a sofa that also looks good in its back part and in addition I placed a bench that enriches the space and allows you to sit behind the sofa as well. The bench corresponds with the bar stools and is handmade by an Israeli artist, and for me it is really a jewel for the living room" , says the designer.

"In terms of materials, as mentioned, we used shades of wood and beige."

The furniture items were perfectly matched to the selected shade of the parquet.

Parquet imported from Italy was chosen for the flooring of the apartment and serves as a quiet, clean and unique background.

Kuperman recalls that matching the carpentry items to the parquet turned out to be a difficult challenge.

"The parquets used in Israel have prominent textures, in contrast to America where the parquets are sorted to a higher degree and have uniformity. We brought the parquet to the carpenter and he made many samples until we reached the perfect shade of the furniture items."

Special thought was also given to the art that hangs on the wall.

The guest bathroom is actually also the main bathroom of the house and includes a minimalist shower and a cabinet in the same shade as the ceramic tiles that hides many items inside and maintains order.

"I chose pressed tiles measuring 2.8 x 1.2 meters, which create a uniform and clean look, and behind the mirrors I installed LED lights," Koperman explains.

The children's room has two wardrobes and a desk in the center.

In the room hangs a piece called "Always Believing" by the artist Zohar Yousefian, which deals with self-belief, which he created while fighting for recognition in the art world.

"Minimalism creates a very pleasant feeling of peace."

"The parents' bedroom faces a beautiful garden, and in it, too, I incorporated an artwork by Zohar Youssefian called 'Dahlia in three colors' - a three-dimensional work that is a kind of portrait in a different way, that while moving in front of the work - the color of the dahlia flower changes

. Kuperman to a closet, and at the end of the closet she created a work area.

Also in the room: a shoe bench with storage for pairs of shoes, which freed up more storage space in the closet.

"I feel that I was able to convey a feeling that characterizes the character of the family members. For me, I have created a sort of holistic apartment that has peace and a design that is truly magical. The minimalism that characterizes the apartment creates a very pleasant feeling of peace," concludes Kuperman.
