The accident happened at the level of the Bavarian market town of Feucht between the Nuremberg motorway junction and the Nuremberg-Fischbach junction.
According to a police press release, a 55-year-old truck driver had to slow down due to traffic.
The truck driver behind the 55-year-old apparently noticed this too late and drove into the truck in front.
The force of the impact deformed the driver's cab so severely that the rear truck driver was trapped in it and seriously injured.
He had to be freed by the fire brigade, and then the rescue service immediately took him to a nearby hospital for medical treatment of his serious injuries.
