Anthony Blinken met with the family of the Palestinian journalist who was killed in an exchange of fire between the IDF and terrorists in Jenin, to declare to them the American commitment regarding taking responsibility for her death.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met this evening (Tuesday) with the family of Shirin Abu Aqla, the Palestinian journalist who was killed about two months ago during an exchange of fire between IDF forces and terrorists in Jenin.

According to Blinken's spokeswoman, the secretary invited the members of the journalist's family to a meeting at the secretariat compound in order to declare to them the commitment of the United States for taking responsibility for her death.

The family, for its part, hopes to bring about measures against Israel on the issue.

Lina Abu Aqla, the journalist's niece, uploaded a video to her Twitter account where she is at the US State Department, in which she said: "We are here to demand justice for Shirin."

She added that the family "will vow to bring justice for her murder, and we will go wherever it takes us. Shirin lives to reveal the truth behind every story, and we will do the same."

According to the family, Blinken told them at the meeting that he felt "obliged to protect every American citizen and we will stand by it".

The family members added that "we will not be silent until there is an American investigation that will lead to true justice, and we will not stop until pain like the one we experienced is avoided for every American or other Palestinian."

It is not clear whether the family members were also supposed to meet with President Joe Biden, but even if so, such a plan will probably not come to fruition because he is in isolation after being infected with Corona a few days ago.

As I recall, in an incident about two months ago, Abu Aqla was killed by a bullet fired during clashes in Jenin between terrorists and an IDF soldier. An American investigation of the bullet stated that it is not possible to determine with certainty who is responsible for her death, although a higher probability was defined that it came from the Israeli forces, this in view of the findings of the investigation transferred from both sides.
