Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhao Lijian today reiterated his country's firm opposition to US attempts to impose unilateral sanctions on Russian oil supplies to China.
"We categorically reject such illegal unilateral sanctions," Zhao said at a press conference, in response to a question by Russia's TASS news agency about China's position on Washington's new moves, noting that China-Russia relations are based on trade and economic cooperation based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit. It does not target third parties.
And the US Bloomberg Agency reported earlier that US lawmakers led by Republican Senator Marco Rubio proposed imposing sanctions against companies that sell Russian oil and other energy resources to China.
