The Alpen Film Festival stops at the open-air cinema in Mittenwald.

Five mountain films can be seen, which take the audience on a visually stunning journey into the world of modern alpinism.

Including the film "Gerwentil" with direct reference to the Karwendel.

With two of the best alpinists through the six great north faces of the Alps.

“Our guest performance in Mittenwald has meanwhile become a meeting place for the mountaineering community.

The mood is always great.

We always look forward to this all year long!” says festival director Sandra Freudenberg, who will host the evening.

In the Puit spa complex, admission from 8 p.m

There is a wild culinary mix of open-air sausages, Italian burgers and beer from Mittenwald

The program is characterized by the narrative poetry and exciting dramaturgy of the short films as well as by its extraordinary protagonists and their refreshing sense of humour.

Exciting and inspiring performances are shown as well as moments of stillness, inner contemplation and serenity.

Respect for the mountain world and the mountain people is always in the foreground - in the spirit of alpinistic values ​​such as friendship, trust and compassion, which make alpinism an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO.

Reinhard Karl died much too early, at the age of 35, on May 19, 1982 at Cho Oyu (8153 m).

However, he lives on in his texts and photographs – just like in the works of a young artist.

With his text-illustrated book “Mountain Experience: Time to Breathe”, the mountaineer, writer and photographer Reinhard Karl (1946-1982) gave expression to the lifestyle of a generation of mountaineers and climbers.

Like hardly anyone else, the man from Heidelberg knew how to express his own experiences, his thoughts and feelings on the mountain in words and pictures.

Unfortunately, Reinhard Karl died much too early, at the age of 35, on Cho Oyu (8153 m).

However, he lives on in his texts and photographs.

Using the example of artist Clara Happ, author and filmmaker Tom Dauer shows that his works have lost none of their uniqueness to this day.

The 30-year-old creates woodcuts and linocuts based on Reinhard Karl's photographs.

She is not concerned with detailed reproduction.
