The EU sanctions against Alisher Usmanov appear to be working.

The oligarch with real estate in Rottach-Egern is defending itself with a lawsuit against the measures.

Rottach-Egern

- He loved the Tegernsee.

Alischer Usmanow, who was born in Uzbek, once acquired four properties on the lake shore in Rottach-Egern through letterbox companies.

Total value: a good 50 million euros.

But now Usmanov - with a fortune of around 18 billion dollars he is considered one of the richest Russians - seems to be short of cash.

Tegernsee: Usmanow and other oligarchs are suing against EU sanctions

The sanctions imposed on Usmanov and three other oligarchs appear to be having an effect, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

In addition to Usmanow, who left Tegernsee in a hurry at the beginning of the Ukraine war, Roman Abramowitsch, Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven have also filed lawsuits before the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

The billionaires see their rights violated by the sanctions.

You also claim that you have no close ties to the Kremlin.

Here, however, Usmanow is likely to have difficulties in explaining himself.

Because there are numerous photos of various occasions where Putin decorated him with medals.

Oligarch Usmanov assures: No close ties to Putin

Nevertheless, the oligarch sees himself wrongly pilloried.

Usmanov has already told our newspaper through his press spokesman Grigory Levchenko that he considers the sanctions "unfair" and based on "false allegations".

He has no close relationship with Putin and has never managed any money for him.

As soon as he resigned as President of the World Fencing Federation, the 68-year-old wrote: "I believe that this decision is unfair and that the reasons given to justify the sanctions are a series of false and defamatory allegations, who damage my honor, my dignity and my business reputation.”

Oligarch asks EU to pay court costs

The EU sanctions have obviously meant that Usmanov and his oligarch friends have to severely restrict their life of luxury.

According to a media report, Usmanov is now demanding at least USD 20,000 from the EU to cover court costs.

He also sought to expedite the process, as the sanctions appear to have had a negative impact on his business deals.

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Miesbach newsletter.

Usmanov claims three of his companies are at risk of bankruptcy as a result of EU penalties.

He is also said to have demanded compensation for their employees because they had become victims of the sanctions.

But the court rejected his urgent application in the preliminary proceedings within a few days.

Usmanow's luxury villa: Companies on Lake Tegernsee are still waiting for their money

This is also not good news for the companies in Tegernsee, which still have outstanding accounts with Usmanow.

He commissioned her to build a new villa on Rottach's Forellenstraße.

"Since the sanctions we've been waiting for the final payments," complained a company boss.

"The companies' services will be paid as soon as there is an opportunity to do so," Usmanov's spokesman said.

This should be a long time coming.
